First class mail is the preferred way for single-pieces, envelopes and small packages. First-class mail must weigh 13 ounces or less. Pieces over 13 ounces can be sent as Priority Mail. The First Class Mail letter (1 oz.) rate for postage purchased at the Post Office will remain at $0.55. Each additional ounce for a First Class Mail letter will cost $0.20. For packages, prices start at $4.00. You do not pay any additional fees for your first class shipments, such as return or cancellation. All these transactions are included in the fee you pay.
First Class Postage Stamp 2022
First class stamp can always be used unlike other stamps. Even if the first class postage rate goes up, you can continue to use your previously purchased stamps, it will never expire. First class mail stamps cost $0.55 (the current 1 oz price). In the fall of 2020, the Postal Service announced it would keep the price of a forever stamp — and the first-class letter rate — at 55 cents for 2021. But other first-class mail rates are going up 1.8%, and alternate categories of mail will cost 1.5% more. The changes took effect on Jan. 24, 2021.
